Simplified Procedures for Managing Insecticidal Waste: A Case Report of KCMUCo-PAMVERC Vector Control Product Testing Facility in North-Eastern Tanzania

Insecticide testing facilities that evaluate a variety of vector control products may generate large number hazardous wastes from routine operations. These originate degraded technical grade materials, sprayed substrates with Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS), and redundant stock or working insecticidal solutions. The washing Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) during preparation for laboratory experimental hut trials also contribute to wastewater insecticide content. Human environmental exposure waste can occur transport, categorization, storage, disposal, resulting in pollution potential health effects. Various national international guidelines have been devised safe disposal should be strictly followed avoid adverse effects on humans environment. To facilitate proper management, this paper outlines simple but practices derived adopted by other similar facilities. National policies related chemical management were reviewed translated into Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), training pathways, manuals. Environmental Management Council (NEMC) assessed the test facility recommended procedures. NEMC recommendations construct soak pits liquid while transporters incinerators contracted solid disposal. An expert was audit annual monitoring. Studies activities at evaluated their generation index. Safety manual SOPs risk assessment, handling safety procedures, usage written.
